I discovered an interesting website while “googling” around yesterday – Ghosts of America. It is a site that lists assorted ghost sightings across the country by town. You can click on any state as see a complete list of towns with information on ghost stories that occurred there.

I was interested in checking out my previous digs in Poughquag, NY. It listed nothing regarding my house. However, one spirit sighting piqued my interest, causing me to recall an event that happened at another location I resided at.

Apparently, there is a spirit in town that goes from residence to residence on an avenue in Poughquag. They did not list the road. At one point I rented an old home that was once a school house. I hadn’t experienced any paranormal activity there. I did get an odd picture of a wisp of light and wasn’t sure if it was car lights from outside or something unworldly. That’s off the topic…

One night, I got up from bed to head downstairs for my usual gratuitous drink of water. At the top of the stairs, as I began my descent, I was treated to a flash of light that appeared as a candle, then flashed brilliantly, took off through the living room for the front door and was gone.

I have never backed down to the ghost before, but I took several steps back up the stairs, considerably spooked, and called for my husband. I then whipped on a light and immediately investigated the light switch for electrical problems. That turned up nothing. There was no evidence that it was ball lightning. It wasn’t a balmy night.

It looked, of all intents and purposes, as if I surprised someone who wandered off the street and was busy looking out the window on my landing. It, subsequently, turned around, saw me, then freaked for the door.

I cannot explain what it was. I have no proof it was a ghostly visitor. More signs seem to point to that than not. The little story of the wandering spirit in Poughquag certainly adds to the circumstantial evidence. If someone could confirm that a visiting ghost wanders down Gardner Hollow Road, then my story will get even better. Meanwhile, I just chock it all up to another possible paranormal experience.

What do you think?

Mysteriously,

Tj
