I can honestly say, I am not afraid of the dark. However, this comic is a little personal in nature. I have lived in a few haunted houses. It is ALWAYS unsettling when you get up at night to go to the bathroom or have that gratuitous glass of water.

I do a fair amount of ghost hunting these days. Short of an adrenaline rush, I don’t find myself fearful. Yet, I feel nervous in the dark of my own home when I’m alone. Perhaps it’s because I’m not REALLY alone… Somehow, it’s comforting to know I am not entirely alone. It’s a double-edged sword.

I heard on the news this morning, the singer Adele is upset because the home she bought came with a ghost. She is afraid to be alone there. The truth is, she has nothing to worry about. Most spirits are benign. It is best to just make friends with him or her. Always remember you are dealing with another human being. It is likely this was their home first, so respect that. Ultimately, you need to encourage them to move on, to go with their family. Assure them they are forgiven, and that you will protect their home. Tell them they will be allowed to visit and that you only wish them to be happy.

Kindness – that’s all it takes.
