Psychomanteum

What the heck is a psychomanteum? The nuts and bolts of it are a mirror, a comfortable chair and a dim light source behind the chair in a small, dark room. At least that was what the Houghton Mansion one was like.

Psychomanteum is also referred to as mirror gazing or scrying. Any reflective object or surface will do including water or BLOOD… (Yes, I read that some folks use blood – I don’t want to meet these guys in a dark alley). The Greeks used this to consult the “oracle” for tips on life and to communicate with their past relations.

There is a psychological effect that goes into starring into the darkness… it puts one into a trance state, reducing alertness and supposedly opening the channels to spirit world communication. In effect, opening one’s psychic abilities.

Dr. Raymond Moody, author of the book Life After Life, used the psychomanteum in his research for his book, Reunions. He found it to be a healing tool for those suffering from grief at the loss of a loved one.

Which brings us to the idea that we are supposed to meet up with deceased relations. My personal opinion is that you can make contact on your own during meditation and that using a pyschomanteum facilitates this as it reduced sensory data.

Jeff Belanger used me as a guinea pig for 30 Odd Minutes webcast’s Houghton Mansion episode – http://www.30oddminutes.com. I sat in the room for 20 minutes to see what would crop up. Unfortunately, I was on high alert as I could hear people downstairs… AND, I apparently had a visitor – psychically, or physically but metaphysically behind my chair! A shadow seemed to move back and forth in front of the dim light behind the chair. I saw THAT in the mirror, not deceased relatives. This interloper left as soon as Jeff and his crew showed up to interview me. He didn’t return either.

Fortunately I brought my voice recorder. I caught these EVPs. They are faint, but they are there! Turn up your volume!

This is the first one. I’ve amplified the portion where the voice appears. It seems to be female.

This one is faint. It is definitely a male voice.

This one is amazing! I never expected this. This shows and intelligent haunting that is aware of what I’m doing and attempting to participate. It’s a male voice (I’m assuming John Widders as it was his third floor. However, he’s more cordial here than in his room.)

This one is interesting. I shifted my weight and made a noise, which you can hear. Then someone says, “Oops.” It’s male… not my voice!

It’s very faint… It seems to say, “Friend come to me.” Perhaps whoever was participating was looking to see a friend show up in the mirror. That would be soooo cool if that were true! I can only speculate with my wild imagination.

It was an interesting experience. I’d like to try it again under quieter circumstances and without metaphysical distractions. Perhaps I would see dogs too!
