Alex - the culprit -photo by Terri J. Garofalo

You’ll notice I actually used a computer font instead of my usual hand lettering. There’s a sound reason for this. I use a little light table with rules on it so I can letter with the proper line spacing. Alex, one of my parrots, decided to bit the electric cord to it. It now does not work. Fortunately it was not plugged in when he committed the crime or we would have served “fried chicken” for dinner.

Alas, we tried to splice it, but it appears I blew the ballast or hopefully, only the bulb. So, it’s out of order for now. So, you will have to put up with clean, legible comic lettering. Sorry about that.

This is prompting me to consider using a Wacom tablet. I had one years ago. Today’s versions are far more sophisticated. While I won’t have hard copy comics, I will be able to cut my draw and production time in half. Therefore, I will be able to keep up with a daily cartoon, and not make concessions to the new job.

Alas, the universe works in weird ways… even through mischievous parrots.
