It has always bugged me that our culture does not support artists. I’ve spent years as a graphic designer only to have my work devalued to the point where I can’t even bring in the money I did when I left college as a freelance artist. Times change… The economy goes south and the first ones on the street are the artists. Art is a luxury… for those who come into this world to do art, income is a luxury apparently.

As a cartoonist, the prospects look even grimmer. Seven days a week of cartooning brings in no visible income unless someone buys a t-shirt or a book. In all honesty, I need second day job and am actively looking for one (which brings the total to THREE if you include Entities, which is basically a full time venture these days).

However, there are rays of hope out there. Hero Initiative is an organization providing emergency financial support, medical aid and a way back to paying work. It’s boon to creatives and their families. Please check this out and make a donation. Every bit helps to keep this form of entertainment alive. God knows we all need laughter in our lives!
