As paranormal investigators, we ask for responses from those who lie beyond. Sometimes we get them, other times we waste our breath.

Provoking has become the ‘norm’ in the minds of amateur ghost hunters.  Fuelled by TV shows who call out in threatening ways in the name of creating exciting television, investigators set out to verbally abuse, attacking their quarry with demands.

I want you to think about this from the ghost’s perspective. It’s like a home invasion. Someone or a group of someones barge into your space and begin hollering at you to come out. It’s like being arrested, robbed or violated. The ghost once had a body, it was and still is human. Would you run up to a complete stranger and begin harassing them for information?

Anyone who has participated in paranormal investigations must take into consideration the human aspect of what they are doing. Respect goes a long way. I’ve gotten more EVPs based on kindness than from provoking. The most provoking I tend to do is mild sarcasm, which does work with some spirits. After all, like us, some of them appreciate that sort of thing.

As in this cartoon, I imagine nagging would have the same effect it does on the living… Anyone who has a husband knows that nagging gets no less than irritation out of him. I also suppose that it causes a few annoyed astrals to chuck something at you too. 😉

Just some thoughts and thoughts are things, so mull ’em over.
